Relationships

“Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised”- Proverbs 31:30

The perfect boy/girl; I’m sure that’s every young man/woman’s dream. Why is it that we have an innate desire to pursue relationships? Because God engineered us with a longing to be with another person. When God created Adam in the Garden of Eden, he knew that “it is not good for man to be alone” (Genesis 2:18), so he created Eve (not Steve LOLOLOL).

TBH this has been a topic which i’ve really been thinking about a lot recently; i don’t know why, but yeh just been on my mind a lot :P

I’ve never been in any relationships before because I was never really mature enough to handle one, and probably am not quite there yet either. It’s ridiculous how lightly people in the world take relationships; it’s almost like it’s socially acceptable to go through multiple boyfriends/girlfriends. I reckon it’s foolish and does leave behind a lot of scars/emotional damage. Someone once told me, that when you like someone and form an emotional bond with them, you give them a piece of your heart to keep. I know there was a technical name for this, but i forgot. But the point is, try not to give ur heart away to more than one person because it’s excruciatingly hard to get it back. There’ll be a perpetual void in your heart.
Btw, i’m no expert in this topic and i admit it, but I’m just expressing what’s on my heart :P

So what do you look for in a girl/boy?

Proverbs 31:30 pretty much sums up what wisdom would choose. So yeh this would be my list (in order):

#1: Loves/fears God (and equally yoked)
#2: Similar passions
#3: feel comfortable/can get along
#4: Physical appearance

Let’s not kid ourselves. it’s not that difficult to find a pretty girl/guy in the world we live in, but what’s so ridiculously rare is someone that genuinely loves Jesus and is spiritually mature. What the verse says is so true, beauty is fleeting (temporary), but someone who fears God is praiseworthy. it’s more rare/precious than silver or gold. btw I’m not saying it’s bad to be good looking, but it’s more important to be godly (good looking on the inside :P)

I’m reading this book called Boy Meets Girl at the moment. It’s really good for anyone that is interested. It paints a really conservative/cautious approach of how we should interact with people we like, but ultimately, is full of truth and wisdom that is for our own good. I’m only halfway through the book at the moment, but the crux of what i’ve picked up so far is: treat others like ur brother/sister, and seek to develop the friendship first. When you have that mindset, it really does completely transform the way you act and really does reflect the key values of the bible. It reduces the chance of us acting out of folly/immaturity, and does really provide you with a firm/wise foundation to pursue a godly relationship.

I’m gonna be honest that a lot of time I worry about life too much; about what course I’m gonna get into, and if I’m gonna get gains at the gym, and if I’m gonna find the right girl. Some might argue that I’ve got a reason to be worried, because relationships are actually ridiculously complicated. But hey, Jesus tells us in Jeremiah 29:11 that he has “plans for (us)”, and that he works all circumstances for our overall good (Romans 8:28). Stop worrying about when the right person/time will come, for God will open the door for you in his perfect timing. Let’s look at Proverbs 3:5-6:

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him and he will make your paths straight”
Let’s dissect it:

- Trust in God (that he will provide at the right time)
- Don’t be discouraged if you don’t understand why something happened. God doesn’t work using logic; he works beyond human comprehension
- Commit everything to him. Put him at the centre of your relationships/pursuit of it
- And everything will turn out fine in his perfect will

Yeh thanks guys ‘m gonna end the post now cause I’m really tired and want to sleep LOL. but yeh at the crux of it all, really put Christ in the centre of your life, and everything will fall into place haha!!

God bless u guys! remember to pray about it!

Fungus booy4H!

Man i’m still blown away from Pastor Alejandro’s message on friday at Fungus. It’s amazing hearing from a Costa Rican pastor, who’s only 25 years old (although he looks like 40) lol!! There’s something special about the presence of God.

To be honest, sometimes we get caught up in the motions of life and fall into the habit of ritualism that we forget about our relationship with God.
I was brought up in a Christian home, and grew up going to church/sunday school. But I guess that it’s only recently that I truly “became” a follower of God. My walk with God has been up and down over the years. At some points I was really close to God, but then at some points I was spiritually stagnant and dry. But yeh the message on Friday really rekindled my flame and opened my eyes.

“In your presence is fullness of joy” - Psalms 16:11

Trust me, when you really experience God’s presence, you will never ever be the same. There’s nothing that compares to the amount of joy and contentment that it brings. We need to incorporate it into our daily lives, and really set some time aside just to build our friendship with God, and also wait in his presence.

Recently i’ve also started reading Battlefield of the Mind by Joyce Meyer. It’s a fantastic book, and has really made a huge impact in my life even over the last few weeks. If you want to read it, i can lend you mine after I’m done.

You know, Christianity is more than just a heartwarming belief system; more than just a fruitful way to live, and more than just a religion; it’s a relationship with the true and living God.

Focus on building that relationship with God, and getting closer to him, and you’ll see breakthroughs in your life

Joseph Prince- Grace vs Law

Grace is one of the most powerful gifts that God gives us freely. Once we truly begin to comprehend and understand it, it will inevitably transform our lives. Grace is the gospel of Jesus; it is the very essence of who he is. When you touch grace, you touch the heart of God.

Grace means to receive something that we do not deserve; an unmerited favour. There is something about it that touches our heart, to receive the gift of love unconditionally; not because of what we’ve done, but because of what He did on the cross.

“The law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ”

Grace and truth is contrary to the law. Grace leads to life, and the law leads to death. After what Jesus did on the cross, the law was destroyed, and God’s grace and forgiveness superabounded.

For those who don’t know, the “law” refers to the 10 commandments that God gave to Moses. A lot of people think that the law is what should govern the way we live. Obviously, we should try to abide by it, but reality is; we fail miserably. That’s the whole purpose of the law: to bring us to the end of ourselves so that we realise our need for a saving grace. Notice how when you sin and feel the guilt, you tend to keep on sinning? But remember, we aren’t condemned, but are made righteous through Jesus. When sin abounds, grace superabounds.

Remember the time when Jesus was talking to the rich young ruler in Luke 18? Don’t try to be self-righteous like him and boast in your works. That’s why Jesus put an end to his pride and told him to “sell everything you have and give to the poor”, which he obviously couldn’t do. When we try to boast on our works, we fall from God’s grace, and he will always tell us that we still “lack one thing.” Abide in his grace, and just admit that you’re sinful and accept His free gift of forgiveness.

Face it, sin can’t be overcome by preaching about doing good works and behaviour modification. The change has to come from the inside out. God isn’t about behaviour modification; he’s about heart transformation. The gospel isn’t about right living; it’s about right believing. And from right believing comes right doing. See, it’s from the inside-out.

Romans 6:14 tells us that “sin shall no longer be your master, because you are not under the law, but under grace.” Grace isn’t a licence to sin; it’s actually an empowerment to break the chains of sin. When under grace, our attraction to sin becomes less and less and the attraction to Jesus becomes more and more. But when we live according to the law, our attraction to sin increases.

We need to start to understand our identity in Christ. It’s not self confidence; it’s God confidence. We don’t look to our abilities; we look to his abilities. You are a man/woman of Christ. You’re a child of God, and a son/daughter of the most high. Because you are in Christ, you don’t have to lie, you don’t have to cheat etc.

The law condemns the best of us, but grace saves the worst of us

We can prove that the law doesn’t make us holy or righteous. How then did God call Abraham his “friend” 460 years before the law was given? Likewise, how did Joseph know not to commit adultery with Potiphar’s wife, although this commandment was yet to be given? Grace changes who we are, and because of that, what we do. You cannot be under water and not be wet, just as you cannot be under grace and not be holy.

Under the law, God demands righteousness (which we can’t produce). But under grace, God imparts righteousness. Under law, man works. Under grace, God works.

The story of the adulteress woman in John 8 is so powerful. People caught a woman in the act of adultery and brought her to Jesus. They quoted the law of Moses that stated such a woman must be stoned to death. How did Jesus respond? He replied by engraving into the stone floor these words: “he that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her” (verse 7). He unleashed the full light of the law against their conscience. And one by one they left. Then Jesus told her: “neither do I condemn you: go, and sin no more” (Verse 11)

Isn’t that amazing! The Law says: “don’t sin and we won’t condemn you”. But grace says “you aren’t condemned so don’t sin”. They are completely the opposite way round.

In the old testament, people had to sacrifice an animal (usually a lamb) as an atonement for their sin. Do you know why we aren’t condemned? God doesn’t look at you; he looks at the offering; he looks at the lamb that was sacrificed. Is our lamb perfect and without blemish? Yes, because our lamb is Jesus Christ.

Message 1: Louie Giglio

This message wasn’t actually at the conference itself, but was at the Hillsong Church service the sunday night before :)

One thing I love about Louie is his genuine, sincere and humble heart. He always seems to be filled with so much joy; a joy that can only come from the Lord. For those who don’t know, Louie is the pastor and founder of Passion Church in Atlanta, Georgia. He works closely with Chris Tomlin to write songs, and is also the founder of sixstep records.

Louie’s message revolved around two simple words: Courage and Clarity. We need to marry these two together in order to really advance in the kingdom of God. Neither of these are independent; they are useless and ineffective on their own. Take this example about sharing the gospel with someone:

If you have courage but not clarity, this is how it will turn out:
- You are bold enough to break out of your comfort zone to speak to someone about God, but you really don’t know what you’re doing or saying. So although you have all the right intentions, you aren’t really winning their soul for God.

Clarity but not courage:
- You have a vision to reach out to your friends, and you know exactly how you are going to do it. Maybe you plan to invite them to your youth group camp by introducing some of the leaders to them. But when it comes to asking them, you chicken out. That also isn’t entirely effective.

But when you marry clarity and courage together:

- You know exactly how you are going to reach out to your friends, and you actually go ahead (in courage) and do it. Now that’s where God want’s us to be.

So you’re wondering, how do we get clarity and courage?

Clarity:
- Read the Bible. Greatest source of guidance and life
- Pray about it
- Speak to leaders/pastor

Courage:
- Have faith and trust in God completely
- Firstly you need to surrender to God and rely in his strength and wisdom

Sorry that I didn’t include any bible references in this post, as I only took notes after I got home.

Also, something completely random that stood out to me was this:

- Prayer shouldn’t be forced, vague or insincere. Don’t you hate talking to somebody that keeps on using cliches and saying superficial things? it’s like that with God. He’s not dead; he’s alive. Just like you talk to any of your friends, he hears you whether you believe it or not. When you realise that you’re talking to the maker of the universe, maybe your perspective may change. I still haven’t really unravelled the keys of prayer, but I’m dedicated to

Goodnight everyone! Im so tired lol

Hillsong

Finally I’ve found time to blog about my epic experience at the Hillsong Conference 2012! This year I went up to Sydney with my church group to my first every hillsong conference. Since I had never been to one before, I had no idea what to expect. All I can say is: it blew me away. Well….. I mean… God blew me away.

Some of the speakers included Joyce Meyer, Louie Giglio, Joseph Prince and Steve Furtick. Matt Redman and my very favourite Chris Tomlin were also present! To be honest, it wasn’t the famous faces or the epic lighting etc that made the conference life-changing, but rather, God speaking through them. What makes a speaker great isn’t their own wisdom or knowledge, but how much they depend on God and let him speak through them.

One thing I can’t help but notice about the Hillsong church is their amazing passion for Jesus. Their worship isn’t solely “hyped up”, but it is birthed out of a genuine heart. Ultimately, a few things really stood out to me:

- God’s grace empowers us to live righteously. There is something about it that softens the human heart
- Hardships can help mould us into the people that God created us to be; but it all depends on the way we choose to react. We can either be bitter and resentful, or we can forgive. Easy to say and agree with, but so difficult to do.
- We can’t forgive or love on our own strength; we need the Holy Spirit living within us to enable us to.
- We can’t do what Jesus did unless we become who Jesus is. Don’t even try to love if you aren’t willing to become more christ-like. you’ll fail miserably. Fact.

I took notes during each message on my I-touch. Hence, I’ll be blogging about each of them! :)
And hey, I know this is Tumblr and not Blogspot. But nobody uses blogspot anymore so it’s pointless

I pray that you will be blessed!

Perception

“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”- Romans 12:2

- Be thankful for what we have rather than complain about what we lack
- Remember how blessed we already are, not how blessed we could be
-  Look at what she’s done for you as opposed to what she doesn’t do
- Focus on his strengths and not his weaknesses
- Forget the past and strive for a brighter future
- Think of the cup as half full rather than half empty
- Count the years-young and not the years-old
- Look beyond the storms and see God’s hand over your life

At the end of the day, it’s not about who we are or what we’ve done; it’s about who He is and what He’s done

God is good, all the time

Be still, there is a healer
His love is deeper than the sea
His mercy is unfailing
His arms, a fortress for the weak

Let Faith Arise

When we look at this song, we tend to think: “Yeah, it’s great to lift our hands to celebrate our victories in Christ!”
That’s definitely true, but this song wasn’t birthed out of a place of victory; it came from a place of suffering and pain

As Christians, we are called to praise God regardless of the situation; in both the good and the bad times. God is still sovereign and worthy of our praise even when we barely have the strength to even lift up our hands. Easy to say, difficult to actually do.

I was at the Hillsong Conference 2012 from 10-13th July this year. Louie Giglio and Chris Tomlin were amongst some of the amazing guests at the conference. Louie shared their story of how this song was written.

It was in the midst of a severe health condition; stripped of energy and life that Louie wrote the lyrics of this powerful song. But when he remembered the “songs in the night” that God gives us, he chose to look to the almighty God rather than the situation around him. Praise is a powerful weapon in the midst of trials

Psalm 63:4 is the very heart of this song. “I will praise you as long as I live, and in your name I will lift up my hands”

Be still my soul there is a healer (who is Jesus Christ)
His love is deeper than the sea (unconditional and unfailing)
His mercy is unfailing (always there when we need it most)
His arms a fortress for the weak (in our weakness his strength is made perfect)
Let faith arise (Make faith your lifestyle)

I lift my hands to believe again, that you are my refuge, you are my strength

May God truly bless each and every one of you

Taste

Taste and see that the Lord is good”- Psalm 34:8

I’m a huge fan of food; always have been and always will be. Since I’m a “growing boy” as my mommy says, I always seem to be hungry. I think it’s partly due to watching too many food shows such as Iron Chef, Masterchef and Epic Meal Time. So in response to my growling stomach, I’m always searching in the pantry for something to eat. Luckily for me, my mum only buys healthy food which I don’t like, or else i’d probably be morbidly obese by now.

One thing that all food has in common is that it only satisfies temporarily, and chances are, you’ll be hungry again a few hours later. This verse in the Bible from Psalm 34:8 always seems to stand out to me. I first heard it at the Kidshaper conference a few years ago, and every time that I look at it, there is a unique and different revelation.

What does it mean to Taste? It means to try it for yourself. If Maccas released some epic Crispy Bacon burger, and your friend tells you that it’s amazing, I’m sure you would want to try it for yourself before you really believe them.

In the same way with God, we are only truly transformed when we experience his love/grace/forgiveness for ourselves.
I was brought up in a Christian household, but I didn’t really know Jesus until I decided myself to seek after him. I read the bible, prayed and went to church, just like any other person, but was I really transformed? No.

At the crux, it’s all about actively seeking after God, and having a desire to taste of his goodness in your own life.

He is the only way and the only source of truth and life.

Cliches

Some phrases/ideas are way too overused that they’ve lost all their meaning. Makes me wonder why people bother saying it just for the sake of a conversation. However, sometimes people are actually genuine; it’s just so rare these days

  • “How are you?” - every shop I go to, the cashiers always ask me this
  • “God bless”-
  • “I love you”- Need I say more?
  • “I’m fine/ok” - In response to “how are you?”. Imagine you reply, “I’m terrible”; the other person will get a shock lol!
  • “What subjects are you doing?” - I swear, nearly every asian parent asks people this. No offense
  • New years resolutions: does anyone actually stick to them? I know I don’t

If only people would be honest and genuine to each other. Truth sets us free

I know this is Tumblr and I’m treating it like Blogspot, but hey, no one’s stopping me :P

I’m really enjoying uni this year so far. I would have preferred to live in Melbourne, but oh well, I should be thankful for what I do have. I actually have heaps of spare time when i’m in Geelong, so I’ve pretty much been hitting the gym and Youtubing a lot :P

Now that I’m living by myself, I’ve had to learn now to cook. I usually just have tuna/baked beans/omelette/carrot when I run out of ideas, but recently i’ve tried to be a bit more creative and (unsuccessfully) cooked lamb chops, grilled salmon and steak. And somehow, I manage to eat tonnes of fruit every day (i rarely eat fruit when I’m in melb). It’s annoying how I’m 18 and still don’t have my P’s. But on the bright side, I’m forced to ride a bike to uni every day. I think my fitness level has improved a bit since last year xD  I used to be l one of the most un-fit people at school. I came like 130/180 in cross country LOL

Since I’ve moved to Geelong, I joined this group at uni called “christian union”. Although pretty much everyone there is white, I’ve managed to get to know them pretty well. What strikes me is their passion for evangelism. To be honest, I never really prioritised evangelism in my life. I was born into a Christian family, and have been going to church for most of my life (just like a tonne of other people). I only really knew Jesus when I made a personal commitment to follow him, which was in like year 8.

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit- Matthew 28:19

There are so many people in the world that call themselves Christian, but in reality, are far from who they claim to be. So many false and deceptive people that lead others astray; it’s a sad reality. The bible says that whoever believes in Jesus will be saved, but what does it really mean to “believe”? I personally think that believing is about the condition of our heart, and it is the choice to lay down your life for the sake of the gospel, and the desire to become more Christ-like. A common view is that ‘believing’ is merely admitting that God is real. Hey, even the devil admits that God is real. It’s about taking up your cross and following him.

Salvation is so awesome that we simply can’t keep it to ourself. So much of the time, we tend to just reach out to other Christians, which is great, but we also need to remember to   tell others about the good news. Recently, I can honestly say that I’m prioritising evangelism more in my life, and it brings me such joy to be able to share the gospel with others. Of course it’s not easy; it takes effort and risk, but that’s what faith is about.

Anyway, gonna get back to study! see ya all!

Different

The things that we do and choices we make essentially determine who we are. What kind of person do you want to be known as?

As Christians. we are called to live a life that is different from a ‘wordly life’; a life that is selfless in love rather than one that is selfish in hatred.
James 2:17-18 tells us that “faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.”. We are challenged to show our faith through our deeds.

So many people call themselves Christians but can’t justify it through their actions. Once we genuinely make a decision to follow Christ, it is impossible to live the same life; change is inevitable into a person that is more like Jesus.

I admit that I sometimes struggle to live a life that God wants me to live. Sometimes I call myself a Christian but don’t reflect it through my actions. Something that I am working on is to ‘turn the other cheek’ when people wrong against me; to show love rather than fight back. Also, I need to look at others through God’s eyes rather than judge.

Do you really reflect your faith through your actions?
Has God changed the way you live your life since you met him?
I really do hope so, because that is the crux of Christianity. God bless you all!
